The year-end highlight, the “Arima Kinen,” was won by Regaleira (3-year-old filly, trained by Kimura), marking her second G1 victory following the 2023 Hopeful Stakes.
Regaleira, sired by Suave Richard out of Loca (by Harbinger), now has a record of 3 wins in 8 starts. Her victory as a 3-year-old filly in the Arima Kinen is a remarkable achievement, making her only the second filly to accomplish this feat since Star Roch in 1960, a span of 64 years.
Jockey Tosaki, who secured his 13th JRA G1 victory, expressed his gratitude: “I want to thank Regaleira. I rode with the determination not to lose in spirit. I’m deeply moved by joy from the bottom of my heart.” Trainer Kimura also celebrated his 11th JRA G1 win.
Meanwhile, Do Deuce (5-year-old colt, trained by Tomomichi), who had won both the Tenno Sho (Autumn) and Japan Cup in succession, was withdrawn from the race on December 20 due to lameness in his right foreleg.
About the Arima Kinen
The name “Arima” comes from Yoriyasu Arima, the second chairman of the Japan Racing Association. The race was originally established in 1956 as the “Nakayama Grand Prix” to commemorate the opening of the new grandstand at Nakayama Racecourse. However, following Chairman Arima’s sudden passing in 1957, the race was renamed the “Arima Kinen” to honor his contributions.
