エンターテインメント色の強いものではなく、本物のボクシングを観に来てくれたお客さんが東京ドームを埋めてくれたことは、自分の1つのモチベーションになりました。試合内容で引きつけられたことは、プロボクサーとして、これ以上ないこと。34年ぶりに東京ドームでボクシング興行が開催できたことは、本当に感慨深いものがあります。
6年前、スーパーフライ級からバンタム級に上げた当時ですが、いずれ体格差にぶち当たると考えていました。最初から今のボクシングスタイルを想像していたわけでないですが、パワー負けしないようにどうすれば良いか。試行錯誤しながら、手探りで続けてきた。それが現在のスーパーバンタム級ですごくプラスになっています。
そして今も3～4年後を見据え、イメージしながら練習しています。漠然と30ラウンドのサンドバッグ打ちをしても強くはならないと思っています。これからも先を意識し、積み重ねていくつもりです。強いままの井上尚弥を魅せ続けたいですし、応援してくださるファンをガッカリさせたくないですから。
自分が30代となり、これから10代後半、20代前半の若いアマ経験豊富なボクサーが次々と出てくるでしょう。自分はそういった選手たちの「ラスボス」でありたいと思っています。バンタム級で4団体を統一する前後あたりから「井上尚弥にとってのラスボスは誰だ？」との声が上がっていることを知りましたが、自分こそが「壁」でありたい。しかしラスボスである自分が勝つエンディングにしたいですし、負けずに引退したいと思っています。
大橋ジム30年という区切りの年に東京ドーム興行が開催できました。それは大橋会長と自分が持っている運命だと思います。自分が世界王者になって10年、大橋ジムが30年というタイミングで東京ドームのリングに立てた。これは自分のキャリア後半へ、加速できる舞台だと考えています。今が集大成ではないです。井上尚弥がさらに加速するイベントだったと思っていただけるとうれしいです。
今年はあと2試合したいと思っています。スーパーバンタム級で4団体の王座を保持していたら、指名試合などの兼ね合いでベルトを手放さなくてはならないこともあるでしょう。そうなれば新王者と対戦し、あらためて王座を取り戻したいです。この階級で2度、3度と4団体統一してもいい。それぐらいしっかりとスーパーバンタム級で戦うことを考えています。
既にフェザー級転向について質問されることが多くなりましたが、あくまでナチュラルにフェザー級の体になったら階級を上げようと考えています。無理して体を大きくするとスピード、タイミングが崩れ、ボクシング自体も崩れてしまいます。今は少しずつ体が大きくなったら…程度の気持ちでフェザー級を考えています。

Six years ago, when I moved up from super flyweight to bantamweight, I anticipated encountering physical differences eventually. I didn't initially imagine my current boxing style, but rather, how to avoid losing power. I've been continuing, groping my way forward, through trial and error. It has greatly benefited me in the current super bantamweight division.
And even now, I am practicing while envisioning three to four years ahead. I don't think just hitting the sandbag for 30 rounds vaguely will make me stronger. I intend to keep focusing on the future and building upon it. I want to continue showcasing a strong Naoya Inoue and not disappoint the fans who support me.
As I enter my thirties, there will be young amateur boxers in their late teens and early twenties coming up one after another. I want to be the "final boss" for those players. I became aware of voices asking, "Who is the final boss for Naoya Inoue?" around the time of unifying the four titles in the bantamweight division. I want to be that "wall." However, I also want to make myself the winner as the final boss and retire without losing.
In the 30th year of Ohashi Gym's existence, we were able to hold an event at the Tokyo Dome. I believe it is the fate shared between Chairman Ohashi and myself. Standing in the ring of the Tokyo Dome at the timing of 10 years since I became a world champion and 30 years of Ohashi Gym, I see it as a stage where I can accelerate toward the latter part of my career. This is not the culmination for me now. I would be happy if people think it was an event where Naoya Inoue could accelerate even further.
I want to have two more matches this year. If I hold the titles of the four major organizations in the super bantamweight division, I may have to relinquish some belts due to considerations such as mandatory fights. If that happens, I want to fight against the new champions and reclaim the titles. I'm willing to unify the titles in the super bantamweight division two, three, or even four times. That's how seriously I'm considering fighting in the super bantamweight division.
I've already been asked a lot about moving up to the featherweight division, but I plan to move up only when my body naturally becomes featherweight. Forcing my body to grow larger would disrupt my speed and timing, and it would also affect my boxing negatively. For now, I'm thinking about the featherweight division with the mindset of gradually getting bigger.
