松山英樹が銅 ゴルフ男子初メダル

■メダル争い大混戦のバックナイン
勝負のバックナインに入った松山はパー4の10番でバーディを奪い、16アンダー、2位タイへ浮上。12番でもバーディで17アンダーと食らいついていった。
後半に入って大混戦となったメダル争い、トップのラームが11番・12番で連続ボギーでトータル18アンダーにすると、T.フリートウッド（33、イギリス）が猛チャージ、11番・12番で連続バーディでトップに並び18アンダー、R.マキロイ（35、アイルランド）も後半10番から4連続バーディで16アンダーと迫って来た。
ここは16番ホールから難しいコースが続き、勝負どころとなるためそれまでに伸ばしたい松山、14番パー5のセカンドショットでグリーンを狙ったが左に外しラフへ。難しいアプローチをピンそば約3mに寄せたが、バーディパットは決まらず。同じ組のマキロイはバーディをうばってこれで5連続、17アンダーで松山に並び3位タイとなった。
15番のパー4、マキロイはセカンドショットが池へ、痛恨のミスでダブルボギー、18アンダーでトップタイのラームも14番でダブルボギーと2人がスコアを落とし、全くメダルの行方が分からなくなった。
残り3ホールとなり、首位は18アンダーでフリートウッドとシェフラー、3位に17アンダーで松山となった。ここで抜け出したのがシェフラー、17番で長いバーディパットを決めて4連続バーディ、19アンダーとし、ガッツポーズも飛び出して、ついに単独トップにたった。しかし、16番でフリートウッドもバーディで19アンダーに並んだ。

実際に銅メダルをかけたときの思いについて「やっぱり隣にね、金メダルかけている人がいるので、嬉しい反面、悔しいような気持ちでいます。これで一つ、自分の中で、これ（銅メダル）を持ってることによってすごく変わる部分もあると思うんで、よかったなと思います」と笑顔をみせた。

He continued his momentum by sinking another 3.5-meter putt on the par-4 6th hole for a third consecutive birdie, moving to 16-under, just one stroke behind the leaders Schauffele and Jon Rahm (29, Spain).
On the par-4 8th hole, Matsuyama narrowly missed a 7-meter birdie putt. The top contenders were tightly bunched, with Matsuyama finishing the front nine with four birdies and no bogeys for a 15-under total, tied for 3rd place and four strokes behind the leader.
On the back nine, Matsuyama birdied the par-4 10th hole to move into a tie for 2nd place at 16-under. He continued to stay in contention with another birdie on the 12th, bringing him to 17-under. After the award ceremony, Matsuyama expressed his feelings: "I had a chance for the gold medal until the last three or four holes. In Tokyo, golfer Inami won silver in women's golf, but the men couldn't win any medal, so I'm very happy to have achieved this here."
