一方で指名候補と言われた選手の中では、通算525HR、清原和博氏の長男・清原正吾（慶応大）や高校No.1捕手との評価もあった箱山遥人（健大高崎高）は指名なし。また今季からNPBファームのイースタン・リーグに参加しているオイシックスからはヤクルト育成3位で下手投げの右腕・下川隼佑、同じくウエスタン・リーグに参加しているくふうハヤテからは阪神育成3位で右腕・早川太貴がそれぞれ指名を受けた。

In the first-round picks, five teams vied for Rui Muneyama, a well-rounded shortstop from Meiji University, four teams competed for Yuto Kanemaru, a left-handed pitcher from Kansai University, and two teams went after Fumiaki Nishikawa, a top outfielder from Aoyama Gakuin University in the Tohto University Baseball League. Additionally, from Oisix, which joined the Eastern League this season, underhand right-hander Shunsuke Shimokawa was picked third in development by Yakult, and right-hander Taiki Hayakawa from Kufu Hayate, a team in the Western League, was selected third in development by Hanshin.
